The Speech/Language Pathologist (SLP) at Adirondack Health provides inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation for patients of all ages—from premature infants to the elderly with a focus on the whole patient. Services are also provided to our residents at Mercy Living Center. The Speech/Language Pathologist at Adirondack Health is a highly skilled health care professional who has national certification from the American Speech/Language/Hearing Association (ASHA) and is licensed by the State of New York.
What conditions does the SLP assess and treat?
Aphasia - loss of language, including difficulty with talking, understanding language, reading and/or writing
Cognitive-Communication Disorders - A wide variety of communication problems that affect your ability to think effectively and efficiently. Traumatic Brain Injury is one example.
Difficulty with memory or recall
Dysarthria - slurred or indistinct speech
Dysphagia - difficulty swallowing. Assessed both at mealtimes and in radiology with the Modified Barium Swallow
Temporo-Mandibular Joint Disease - trouble opening or closing your mouth or pain when opening or closing your mouth
Voice disorders - Loss of voice quality or problems with pitch, loudness or other aspects of the voice including cancer of the head and neck and Parkinson’s disease
Word finding problems - Tip-of-the-tongue syndrome: the person knows what he or she wants to say but is having trouble coming up with the word.
The Speech/Language Pathologist at Adirondack health offers the latest diagnostic tests and procedures. The SLP helps patients regain and improve speech, communication and swallowing skills to they can function as independently as possible. Patient and family education and involvement is an integral part of the therapy process.

The SLP for Adirondack Health is Lea J Bedore, CCC SLP. She has her master’s degree in Speech/Language Pathology and over 36 years’ experience working in the field of Speech Language Pathology.
