SARANAC LAKE – Registration is still open for Adirondack Health’s Diabetes Self-Management Education Program.
The program will begin on Wednesday, Jan. 9 and run for six consecutive weeks, on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Redfield Boardroom at Adirondack Medical Center – Saranac Lake.
The estimated number of people living with diabetes has grown to 30 million, making it America’s most pervasive chronic condition. Diabetes Self-Management Education is an essential component of diabetes care, with national standards based upon evidence of its benefits. The program assists those initially diagnosed with diabetes in getting their self-care off to an effective start. For those who have had the disease for some time, the program offers reminders on how to continue the high level of self-care that is essential for controlling metabolism, managing complications and maintaining a high quality of life. Emerging technologies are easing the burden of controlling blood glucose levels.
Individuals diagnosed with pre-diabetes may also find this program effective in helping to prevent disease progression.
Anyone interested should call 518-897-2611 to register by phone. Physician referral is required for insurance and Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement of the program fee. Scholarships are available through the Adirondack Health Foundation.
