Wound Center adds skilled specialist to its care team

SARANAC LAKE - A familiar face has returned to Adirondack Health with the addition of Lynn Sarr to the highly specialized and caring team at the Wound and Hyperbaric Treatment Center in Saranac Lake.

A long-time resident of Saranac Lake, Lynn is an Adult Nurse Practitioner who has received additional special training in wound and ostomy care. Her career in nursing began at the former Saranac Lake General Hospital where she worked in many departments, mostly specializing in critical care.

Lynn will care for patients with non-healing wounds and those receiving hyperbaric treatment at the Wound Center located off Old Lake Colby Road behind Adirondack Medical Center. For the past nine years she has provided wound and ostomy care in an outpatient setting at CVPH Medical Center.

"We are so fortunate to have Lynn back with us," said Skip Edie, Program Director for the Wound Care center. "Lynn is more than a skilled practitioner. She is someone who patients hold in high regard because of her kindness and compassion."

Lynn was drawn to the specialty of wound care while working at the Uihlein and Mercy Living Centers in Lake Placid and Tupper Lake. It was there she became acutely aware of an opportunity to enhance programs regarding skin care for residents in a skilled nursing setting.

Lynn began by collaborating with long term care nurses, physical therapists and dietitians on prevention techniques and methods to assist with the healing process if a skin condition did develop. It was this experience that pushed Lynn to further her understanding and education regarding wound care.

Lynn earned her nursing degree from SUNY Plattsburgh, and her Master's Degree as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Critical Care at Syracuse University. In 1989 she became the Executive Director of High Peaks Hospice. Under her leadership, the organization expanded its service area three-fold and added a satellite office in Elizabethtown. Lynn would later go on to earn her certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner through the University of Vermont and Fletcher Allen Health Care. She continued her training by becoming certified through the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurse Society at Albany Medical Center in 2003, and earned her certification as a wound specialist in 2008 through the American Board of Wound Management.

When not working, Lynn enjoys wine making, gardening and hiking. To learn more about the wound care services at Adirondack Health, call (518) 897-2800.
