Adirondack Health offering FAST, POWER programs for high school athletes
LAKE PLACID – Beginning in mid-June, Adirondack Health’s rehabilitation and sports medicine department is offering two athletic training programs tailored to high school athletes.
The Fundamental Agility and Speed Training (FAST) program focuses on balance, coordination and mobility to enhance agility and speed. Several different techniques including strength training, balance, quickness and agility are used to achieve a higher level of performance. The primary goal of FAST is to enhance mobility and body control, improve quickness and agility, and keep area athletes competing at the top of their game for the entire school year. Athletes learn basic movement skills for improved coordination and body control. Becoming stronger in fundamental movements at a young age creates a sound foundation for future athletic development.
The POWER program teaches student athletes exercises to gain strength and power. Athletes will learn proper technique and progression for traditional lifts such as squats, bench presses and rows, as well as Olympic-style lifts including the snatch and the clean and jerk. Strength and power are important for speed, and speed and agility are essential for athletic success.
Adirondack Health’s team of certified athletic trainers and strength and conditioning specialists designed both programs for young athletes to improve performance and reduce the chance of injury during the upcoming sports season.
The FAST program runs June 13 to Aug. 3 at the Lake Placid Central School track, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. for 11-13 year olds and from 4:30 to 5:30 for 14-18 year olds.
The POWER program runs June 12 to Aug. 2 in the weight room at the Olympic Arena in Lake Placid, Mondays and Wednesdays from 3 to 4 p.m. for 11-13 year olds and from 4 to 5:30 p.m. for 14-18 year olds.
