Add health to your holidays with two 5K Runs/Walks
SARANAC LAKE – Adirondack Health is offering two chances to add health to your holidays and to support local charitable organizations.
Prior to pulling up to the table on Thanksgiving Day, plan to burn off calories by taking part in Adirondack Health’s 6th Annual Turkey Trot on Thursday, Nov. 27. A few weeks later, plan to take part in the Jingle Bell 5K Run/Walk on Dec. 13 as we swing into the holidays. Both events feature a flat, family-friendly course around Mirror Lake for running or walking, and benefit local organizations while offering participants the benefits of exercise.
The Turkey Trot starts at 8:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving Thursday, Nov. 27 on the Lake Placid Olympic Oval and circles around Mirror Lake to end back at the Oval. Participants can register for the Turkey Trot at www.active.com until Nov. 23 for $25, with groups of 4 for $75, and the fee includes a t-shirt. Registration is $30 the day of the race. Participants ages 12 and under can join the fun walk/run at no cost. Event check-in and pre-race registration can be completed on Nov. 26 at the Oval from 4-6 p.m. Race day registration begins at 6:30 a.m. and closes promptly at 8 a.m. Turkey Trotters who bring three non-perishable food items on the day of the race to be donated to local food pantries, will receive a $5 reduction in the entry fee.
Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third overall male and female finishers. There are additional prizes for anyone who finishes the Trot ahead of the mystery Turkey runner, conspicuously outfitted in feathers.
Then get ready to don your festive holiday hat for Adirondack Health’s Jingle Bell 5K Run/Walk, held in conjunction with Lake Placid’s Holiday Village Stroll on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 8:30 a.m. at the Public Beach in Lake Placid. Gather the entire family for this fun event that offers a flat, family-friendly course around Mirror Lake, and benefits the North Elba Christmas Fund and Adirondack Health’s Fit for Life Program.
Participants can register for the Jingle Bell 5K Run/Walk for $15 at www.active.com by Dec. 11; the first 175 people to register receive event t-shirts. Race day registration is from 7 to 8 a.m. inside the Public Beach House, with an entry fee of $20. Run/Walk day treats include goodies available from Green Goddess Natural Market and Reason 2 Smile, and bring your race bib to participating restaurants for post-run breakfast specials. All participants are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to be distributed to local children by the North Elba Christmas Fund. Anyone not participating in the Run/Walk who wishes to donate a toy is welcome to drop off their donation on the day of the event.
