Adirondack Health’s 2017 Smooth Strides Runners’ Clinics begin Feb. 16
SARANAC LAKE – Adirondack Health’s 2017 Smooth Stride Runners’ Clinics are scheduled to begin on Thursday, Feb. 16, and will be offered by the Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine departments of Lake Placid and Tupper Lake.
The runners’ clinics, sponsored by Adirondack Health, The Fallen Arch and Adirondack Nutrition Consulting, are designed to help identify major biomechanical abnormalities and offer suggestions for corrections. Adirondack Health’s team of physical therapists, certified athletic trainers, nutritionists and exercise physiologists are dedicated to helping runners run longer, faster and as pain-free as possible.
Each assessment includes computerized gait analysis utilizing DartFish video software; a biomechanical foot evaluation with shoe recommendation based upon the runner’s foot structure, mileage and previous injuries; a dynamic movement screen analysis to identify dysfunctional movement patterns; a nutritional screen, including body composition and dietary recommendations; and a group physiology discussion concerning guidelines for proper training. Clinics will be offered at AMC – Lake Placid on Feb. 16, March 16 and May 11, at 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Tupper Lake clinics will be offered on April 6 at 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at Tupper Lake Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine, located at the back entrance to Mercy Living Center. The cost of each clinic is $40, and four spaces are available per time slot. Staff from The Fallen Arch will also be in attendance at all clinics to discuss specific shoe recommendations.
With approximately 40 million runners in the United States, running is a very popular and economical means of exercise. Unfortunately, up to half of those runners will experience pain causing them to reduce or stop their running altogether. Attending a Smooth Stride Runners’ Clinic will help runners to identify, mitigate and prevent the factors most likely to cause unnecessary pain.
