Scholarship applications due April 30

April 13, 2020

The Adirondack Health Foundation is accepting applications for three scholarships for area students pursuing careers in healthcare.

The $3,500 scholarships are awarded to students who have been accepted into a course of study leading to a degree in nursing or an approved allied health career.

Past awardees have gone on to careers as licensed practical and registered nurses, radiologic technologists and physical therapists. Shaleen Price, a 2017 scholarship recipient and mother of three, had been working as an LPN at Adirondack Health’s Tupper Lake Health Center for several years when she decided to go back to school to become an RN.

“Going back to school is always stressful financially, so the benefit of taking away some of that stress was a great gift,” said Price. “I was able to complete my degree locally with the help of the Adirondack Health Foundation scholarship, lessening the financial burden. I remain very grateful for the scholarship and would encourage anyone looking at going back to school to apply.”

Priority is given to candidates with a proven track record working for Adirondack Health and taking steps to expand their knowledge base through higher education. The scholarships are also open to new high school graduates and non-traditional students interested in careers in healthcare.

Anyone interested can download the application at adirondackhealth.org/scholarships, then mail it in. Submissions must be received by April 30.

Qualified applicants must:

• Be full-time students taking a minimum of twelve credit hours per semester.

• Be willing to work at Adirondack Health for at least one year following graduation, if there is a position available.

• Maintain an average GPA of 3.0 or higher to be automatically eligible for a second-year scholarship.
